Larry “Curley” Johnson

Larry “Curley” Johnson, age 77, of Gallatin, MO passed away Wednesday night, July 1st, 2020 at his home, surrounded by loving family.
Curley was born on May 8th, 1943 the son of Theodore and Gertrude (Kelly) Johnson in Inkster, MI. He was a 1961 graduate of Gallatin High School. Curley served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict, stationed at Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii. On August 6th, 1966 he was united in marriage to Jan Gibbens at the Gallatin United Methodist Church. Curley obtained a bachelor’s degree in business from Missouri Western State College. He worked for General Motors for 28 years before his retirement in 1991. Curley was a member of the Gallatin Lion’s Club and Gallatin United Methodist Church. He served on the Gallatin City Council, the Gallatin Volunteer Fire Protection District, the Dockery Park Board and was the president of the Gallatin High School Band Boosters. Curley loved to cook for a crowd. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, and he loved animals. He liked to wake early and stayed busy all day often at his shop or the family farm. He was always jolly and often mistaken for Santa Claus.
Curley was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jay Johnson; brother, Harold Johnson; and son, Jarrod Johnson. Survivors: wife, Jan of the home; daughter, Mandy (Terry) Leibold of Lawrence, KS; son, Zac (Kim) Johnson of Gallatin; grandsons: Matt, Isaac, Ryan, Drew, Peyton and Pryce; nephew, Jeff (Angela) Johnson of Gallatin; other nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Daviess County Library in care of the funeral home.
Private family graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Gallatin.
